Football season has fallen upon us and now the biggest challenges hospitable fans face are who is doing the beer run and how to feed the masses that descend on their houses or tailgates during game day. In these weeks to follow, the Chef is offering up fast and flavorful solutions to those growling stomachs.
BACON STICKS
These handy treats can be stored in a plastic container and carted along on fishing trips and picnics as well. They also make a tasty addition to a family get together, or pre-holiday meal snack.
24 long crisp bread sticks (boxed kind bought in grocery stores)
12 slices apple smoked bacon, uncooked
2 ounces sugar
0.5 ounces caynne pepper
Roll one slice of bacon entirely around two bread sticks together. Continue wrapping each pair of breadsticks with 1 slice of bacon each. Lay on wax paper on a baking sheet. Mix caynne pepper and sugar in bowl. Sprinkle wrapped breadsticks generously with sugar and pepper mix. Turn and sprinkle other side. Bake in 300F oven for 15 minutes. Remove from oven, let juices drain and serve.
